I am not a huge sports fan so I never thought it was necessary to spend hundreds of dollars, or to drive to another town, in order to watch a particular sport match even if it had some superstars in it. I only watch sports when it is convenient, which usually is under circumstances like, when my roommates flip through TV channels and saw that some games were on, or if my friends invited me to get beers in a stadium rather than a regular bar. Among the extremely limited amount of sport matches I have watched, I would like to talk about the US Open in 2016.

While tennis isnt as popular in the US as basketball or football, the US Open is still a big deal, at least in NYC. It is a cultural event, a festival, a sensational spectacle. The US Open is one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, the other 3 are the Australian Open, the French Open, and Wimbledon. In the summer of 2016, there were a few reasons why I went to watch it: my employer was one of the sponsors and we all got employee discount tickets；we were allowed to leave work early for participation in such corporate sponsored event；and the match wasnt too far from where I lived.

I didnt have any expectation for the game when heading to the stadium in Queens. When I entered the stadium, I realized it was an incredibly vibrant gathering around the sport of tennis. Flags of different corporate sponsors surrounded the entire stadium, faces of well-known players were on all kinds of billboards, lines for getting a hotdog went for miles, and thousands of people were sitting outside the stadium watching a gigantic flat screen TV for live streaming. After I entered the stadium, I noticed the audience also included a lot of A-list celebritieseven Donald Trump was there!

The games were not super intense because they were just quarterfinals, but I was lucky to saw the Williams sisters and Djokovic in person on court. I dont think the players tried their hardest at that time but they still delivered a great show by displaying some elegant moves and giving entertaining speeches.
