1) What is the most popular means of transportation in your hometown?

Its definitely the subway in my city. There are several subway lines that run through all of the major areas in my hometown. Its more convenient than the bus, more economical than driving, and more reliable than both cause you dont have to worry about the busy traffic on the ground. Most people think its the best way to get around in the city.

2) Is driving to work popular in your country?

Yeah, its becoming increasingly common for people to have their own cars and to commute by driving. During rush hours, the traffic is terribly busy and the roads are packed with private cars. I guess people enjoy the more comfortable feeling of driving their own vehicles instead of being on a crowded subway train or a bus.

3) Do you prefer public transportation or private transportation?

?Personally, I prefer public transport, especially the subway. Not only is it time-saving and convenient, but also really economical. Driving a car is fairly unpredictable, because I cant say for sure how much time it will cost to reach my destination if there is heavy traffic. And in a crowded city like Qingdao, parking is also a problem when it comes to driving your own cars.

4) Are there any traffic problems in your area?

The most serious one is probably traffic congestion. Since more people own private cars these days, there are often traffic jams on the road, especially during rush hours when lots of people drive to and from work. In addition, pollution caused by car exhaust fumes is becoming increasingly prominent.

5) How would you improve transport in your town or area?

I think I would start with promoting the use of electric vehicles. Although we have come a long way in making use of clean energy sources, we still have a long way to go. We need more effective ways to make transport more eco-friendly.

6) How would you reduce traffic problems in you area?

In my opinion, if we want to deal with traffic problems, we need to improve public transport first. Nowadays, many of the traffic problems such as frequent congestion and heavy air pollution are mainly caused by the use of private cars. If the government can find ways to make public transport more attractive, people might choose public transport over private cars, and traffic on the ground can be thus reduced. A great number of problems can be at least eased in this way.

7) How do you think public transport could be improved?

I think the government and individuals should work together to achieve that. For the government, they can invest more funds into building public transport facilities such as more subway lines and bus stops to make it more convenient. And individuals should use public transport more often and protect the environment on public transport.
