Some people think that in the modern society individuals are becoming more dependent on each other, while others say that individuals are becoming more independent of each other. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It is considered that there is a growing level of individuals dependency in our daily life including families, friends and work colleagues. However, in my opinion, independent behaviors are more prevalent in this contemporary society.

There is no doubt that the sense of independence plays a predominant role in everyday life. Modern technologies encourage us to be exposed to global events much more conveniently and efficiently. In other words, these modern inventions are increasingly considered to be a panacea for the acquirement of news, knowledge, social experience and even answers of school tasks, rather than face-to-face questioning, talking or discussing with others. This kind of exposure has largely reduced the level of peoples connection with others to some extent, promoting a stronger sense of independence within us.

The thriving progress of the machinery automation has also contributed much to the independence of people for the reason that it has revolutionized the way we live in this modern age. Instead of meeting others face to face, many daily tasks including shopping and banking today can be accomplished on our own via the Internet with no more reliance on service personals, such as clerks, bank counters and salesperson.

Admittedly, it is true that there do exist certain situation that leads people to be increasingly dependent. In this day and age, it is not uncommon that every individual are required to be expert at only one certain field due to the specialization and higher demand of work. This means that an employee needs to negotiate and cooperate with coworkers in others departments or even another enterprise for the purpose of accomplishing the whole task smoothly. Therefore, it is of great importance to depend on others to some extent.

To sum up, I hold the belief that the ability of independent thinking is required in modern times and it is more likely to become the mainstream lifestyle in the near future though we have to rely on others sometimes.
