雅思寫作7分范文:Should we explore life in outer space?

是否應(yīng)該探索外太空的生命

Some scientists believe that intelligent life forms may exist on other planets and some want to send messages to contact them. Others, however, think it is a bad idea because these life forms may be too dangerous. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

范文示例

Nowadays many governments spend money on exploring the outer space. A lot of people support this practice, while others disagree, because they believe extraterrestrial life is highly unpredictable.

It is understandable that some people are eager for having adventure in the universe. They have insatiable curiosity about the world, and they simply want to have first contact with other life forms in the universe. Many of them are inspired by film E.T. produced by Spielberg, who depicts the aliens as friendly as possible. What is more, some entrepreneurs, such as Elon Musk, are deeply convinced it is highly beneficial to look deep into the universe. Those entrepreneurs believe that during the process of exploration, many new technologies can be invented, which help the companies generate income in different fields that few people could imagine, such as space travel, satellites and so on.

However, some people are deeply concerned about the unpredictability of the intelligent aliens. Stephen Hawking, for example, once expressed his concern in 2012, and he believed that aliens were likely to conquer and colonize the planets they could find. The more intelligent side is likely to find excuses to do so, just like what the Europeans did to the native Americans. More seriously, not just defeating or colonizing, according to Liu Cixin, a Chinese novelist, some aliens may destroy other planets, just for having fun. In his renowned science fiction, Three Bodies, Liu claims that, according to the Dark Forest Theory, under the circumstance of knowing nothing about your friends or enemies, searching is exposing ones position, which poses people in the planet under unnecessary danger.

To conclude, exploring the universe is possible to be a lucrative business for some people, but the threat cannot be ignored.
