Children have always been the target audience for advertisers. Many residents have been concerned about what impact these advertisements have on children. They are also debating whether to control what sort of advertisements are shown on television.

Many scholars believe that childrens exposure to commercials designed for children can be harmful to them. First of all, this can lead children to make impulsive purchases. Advertisements often attract childrens attention by using very attractive images and sounds effects, and also take advantage of childrens psychology to make them desire and want to have their products. In order to meet the needs of their children, parents often make the purchase, even if they do not really need it. On the other hand, commercials for children tend to be embedded with erroneous values. To take some fast-food brands for example, they will convey concepts such as health and fashion in advertisements, and even get children to be part of their advertisements for better promotion.

Nowadays, more people call for advertisements targeting children to be regulated. Primarily, the content of these adverts that are not conducive to childrens health should be controlled and regulated. For example, the United States stipulates that no more than six minutes of commercials per hour are allowed on television, and advertisements for junk ood are prohibited during childrens programmes. All these measures help to reduce the possibility of children watching inappropriate commercials.

In summary, it is clear that children are sensitive and vulnerable to advertisements and commercials. Therefore children-focused advertising should be restricted in terms of how much it is shown and how often.
