Whether to study specifically or widely has been a heated dispute recently, especially in universities. Some people argue that studying attentively in one specific area denotes a greater chance of success. Others claim that students should be encouraged to study a scope of subjects.

On the one hand, the time which is allocated to the subject is limited and also the time which is distributed to academic study is equal among every student, which leads to the fact that those who are focusing on one subject perform better than others who disperse their energy into several subjects. Besides, to be a qualified graduate and deserve the final diploma is challenging to everyone who spends the whole four years in university. This means that they need to do utmost to accomplish the achievements of each subject in a semester. More importantly, to be proficient in some subject is essential and vital, such as medical science, biology and suchlike applicable major.

On the other hand, the fluctuation of current market and acceleration of technological development cant be predicted precisely. A job which gains the popularity nowadays may be substituted by intelligent robots in the future. Thus, to cater for the requirements of market, university students should make preparation for diverse positions and more skills related to different fields may make them more competitive.

In my opinion, students themselves should first realize what a would-be person they want to be clearly. If they want to be in professional areas, devoting all of their energy to one area is wise and does more help while if they put some financial concerns on the top of their agendas, its better to learn a range of subjects and develop across the board, which may be more suitable to the majority.
