On the one hand, there is strong evidence to suggest that social problems and poverty can lead to an increase in crime rates. When people are living in difficult and impoverished conditions, they may feel that they have no options open to them to improve their lives. This can lead to frustration, resentment, and a sense of hopelessness that can make criminal activity seem like a viable means of escaping their difficult circumstances. Furthermore, social problems such as drug addiction, alcoholism, and mental health issues can also increase the likelihood of criminal behavior.

On the other hand, it is also true that some individuals make the choice to commit crimes for no good reason. Some people simply have a predisposition towards anti-social and criminal behavior, and may be influenced by negative peer pressure or other external factors. This means investing in education, social welfare, and healthcare services that can help to address the root causes of crime while also strengthening our criminal justice system to ensure that those who choose to break the law are held accountable for their actions.
