范文
The purpose of education has always been one of the focus issues within the education community. Whether children should be taught how to compete or how to co-operate is also frequently talked about. What are the advantages and disadvantages respectively?
Under present social reality, the unavoidable mechanism of survival is to select the superior and eliminate the inferior, making it not surprising that many determine it to be the core mission to teach children how to compete. In China, while Department of Education issued an document not to allow schools to rank students by their scores, the fact that students will still be selected according to their academic performance to be qualified into higher schools forces parents to spend much sending their children into various extra-curriculum classes, so that they could have a better position in this fierce competition. To excel in it, children need to enhance their ability, which is considered to be the advantage of competition. Inevitably, however , over-emphasizing on completion can lead to various problems, plagiarism being one of them.
Others say that teaching how to co-operate should be the main concern of education. They might argue that no individual lives in the society insularly, which means that everybody needs to learn how to get along with others. In a co-operational atmosphere, each person can participate in a certain mission with something that they are best at, and meanwhile, they can learn what they need to from their partners. What some wise schools do, to take an instance, is to encourage students to help one another with their academic tasks, because each student is good at different subjects. When they achieve the final goal, to get improved together, they also learn to consider other people's needs, as well as deal with problems on others' grounds. The meaning of tolerance can also be recognized in the process of learning how to co-operate.
As for me, it is certainly important to have ability to compete, but to live a happier life and make constant progress, learning how to co-operate is of greater significance. It is better to content oneself by enjoying the improvement in co-operation than by relentlessly thinking about ways to conquer others. Anyway, to have one more friend is always more enjoyable than to have one more rival instead.
